I've heard horror stories about people hallucinating and going crazy. But the one time I tried it in Iceland all I felt was an awesome mellow accompanied by a buzz. It also takes like fucking shit man, seriously.

The place where I bought this mini bottle from also sells this sort of standing pitcher with two valves for pouring. They come with a set of glasses and "special" utensils for holding the sugar cube as your pour the absinthe over it then set it on fire. It's like $100 but I'm pretty sure I'll end up buying it because it looks pretty sweet. If I remember I'll take a pic of it and include it here for your viewing pleasure.

Yeah man. Back then there was little to no regulation on who made what and how they made it. So the ingredient that makes it absinthe (poisonous in too great a dose) went unfettered. Causing hallucinations and deaths.

I'm told in order for it to taste anything near decent you need to prepare it properly. That means sugar cube on that holy spoon deal, then you pour ice-water on the sugar and into your cup 'til it melts, then you stir and enjoy.

The way I've done it in the past is to drip the absinthe through the sugar cube, light the cube on fire then mix it together and add chilled water.

When I feel like drinking I can put away quite a bit. But with Absinthe I usually do a glass or two tops. Not because of how drunk it makes me (I don't feel any difference in that respect compared to other liquors) but because of how mellow it makes me. I'm positive that there is more than just alcohol in there.
